Sightseeing tour of Budapest, with special emphasis on the Buda* side of the Danube River, the Castle District with the Matthias Church and the Fishermen's Bastion. Visit the Hungarian National Museum with the 1000-year-old Crown of St. Stephen, symbol of the Hungarian nation. Dinner cruise on the Danube River that flows through the middle of the city, dividing Buda from Pest. B/ D

BUDAPEST - SZENTENDRE

Excursion to the picturesque riverside town of Szentendre, known for its museums, galleries and artists or an option to enjoy a spa or free time. B/L

BUDAPEST – BANSKA STIAVNICA & STARY SMOKOVEC, SLOVAKIA

Leave Budapest and travel north stopping en route at the traditional village, Hollókö,* with cobbled lanes, gardens, and houses decorated with folk designs. Continue to Slovakia to visit the beautiful town of Banska Stiavnica,* a wealthy medieval silver mining center, with castle. Overnight in Stary Smokovec. B/L

STARY SMOKOVEC – SPIS – LEVOCA

Visit Spis,* a rich market town with Gothic castle and Levoca,* a historic town with a splendid Renaissance church. Enjoy a leisurely nature walk in the nearby woods. Overnight in Stary Smokovec. B/D

| Day 7 |

STARY SMOKOVEC - ZAKOPANE - DUNAJEC GORGE - KRAKOW

Depart from Stary Smokovec and travel to the famous mountain resort of Zakopane, Poland’s premier center for hiking and skiing in the Tatra Mountains. See typical wooden buildings decorated with folk art. Continue on to the Dunajec River in Pieniny National Park. Gently float on a raft through its famous gorge, with majestic cliffs of incredible beauty. Continue to Krakow, cultural capital of Poland. B/L

KRAKOW

Tour the historic Old City of Krakow* with outstanding buildings, monuments and art treasures, protected by UNESCO. Tour the impressive walled Wavel, seat of Polish kings for over 500 years. Enjoy free time to explore on your own. B/D

KRAKOW – WIELICZKA SALT MINE - KAZIMIERZ

Travel through the Polish countryside to visit the Wieliczka Saltmine and Museum.* Tour the vast caverns of the mine filled with superb carved rock salt sculptures; see the huge underground amphitheater where concerts are held, and an enormous church. Tour the former Jewish section of Krakow, Kazimierz, site of Stephen Spielberg’s film “Schindler’s List.” Visit an old synagogue and learn about the history of this area. B/L

KRAKOW – SKANSEN – AUSWITT-BIRKENAU

Tour the Skansen, an outdoor museum of traditional buildings, including a wooden stave church. Continue on to nearby Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp,* now a memorial museum. B/D
